Final Stone Window Lintel Installed

On the 27th of September, Crest Hill Stoneworks installed the final stone window lintel in their current operations at the mill. As this installation was on the top level of the mill, the stone had previously been lifted to that level of scaffolding by crane at the time the upper tier of steel bracing was erected.

After the area above the window opening was prepared, the lintel was hoisted and positioned using a lift incorporating steel chain and heavy duty nylon belts. The process can be accomplished by a two man crew and takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

The step-by-step process is summarized in the photos below:

Step 1: Fastening Chain and Nylon Belt to Stone Lintel

Step2: Commencing the Lifting Process

Step 3: Positioning Lintel in Place While Assuring That the Opening is Adequate for a Proper Fit.

Step 4: Tim Winther and Adam Sheehan With Lintel in Final Position

When the installation is complete the window opening will look similar to one of the previously completed lintel installations on the same level as depicted below:

Additional masonry work is planned for the next few weeks. When scaffolding is removed, this site will be updated to show less obstructed photographs of the completed work.
