J. D. Imboden

Imboden was born near Staunton, Virginia in 1823. He practiced law in Staunton prior to the war. He entered Confederate service in 1861 as captain of the Staunton Artillery. After FIrst Manassas he organized the 1st Virginia Partisan Rangers. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1863. He fought with Jubal Early during the Shenandoah Valley campaign in 1864. After being incapacitated by typhoid, he finished the war on prison duty in South Carolina. After the war he resumed his law practice in Richmond. He died in 1895.
